Leq'á:mel First Nation Chief and Council on behalf of the
LFN Membership would like to Thank The Royal Bank of Canada for their support
in this project.
On August 1, 2002 Lakahahmen formerly known as Leq'á:mel
officially adopted our traditional name back. The name Leq'á:mel
interpreted means, level center meeting place. Traditionally our
community was the center of trading routes where people of all cultures would
stay to rest, eat, visit, socialize and trade. When the Indian agents
came to our territory in the 1800's the name Leq'á:mel was translated by
another slightly different dialect for the Indian Agent to spell and pronounce
thus became the name Lakahahmen.
On November 9, 2002 Leq'á:mel unveiled it's name and it's
modified logo to the members, public and many representatives from government
agencies, organizations, and communities. Leq'á:mel First Nation wish
to acknowledge and thank all who were in attendance to help us celebrate this
Historical celebration. It is our hope that our guests learned
more about who we are.
